What is Your Why?

A question that is layered. That has many answers. My ‘why’ is everything to me. My ‘why’ is for my children, my future, my freedom. I’m working hard right now to build a dream that honestly doesn’t seem that realistic at times. Some days, (like today) I wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze. If my efforts are all for not. If I’m cut out to be a mom-entrepreneur.

Maybe yes, maybe no. But I will never know if I don’t try. And on these hard days, the best thing I can do to stay focused is to remind myself why I’m doing this in the first place. I feel like a broken record. I want to become a successful photographer for the flexibility, for financial stability, to be able to be creative, and to live a fulfilling life with my family.

I want a job that makes me proud. A job that helps to capture people at special moments in their lives. A job that keeps me engaged with my community and allows artistic expression.

My favorite part about photography so far (specifically family photos) is delivering the images to the family and getting their responses. People are so happy to have ‘this moment frozen in time’, and the fact that I’m able to provide that (little old me!) is so special.

So, today, when I’m feeling low and un-motivated, I need to remind myself that this is the path. This is how it goes. Some days are good and productive, and some days are slow and I don’t get much done. But at the end of each day, I’m hopeful that I’ve at least moved the needle a teensy bit forward toward the end goal: having my business thrive.

The reason why is what keeps me going.

What is your why for what you do?
